Protection of macrophages from intracellular pathogens by miR ‐182‐5p mimic—a gene expression meta‐analysis approach

We describe an approach for using public gene expression datasets to identify gene modules that are regulated by related stimuli. We used this approach to identify macrophage genes involved in the response to diverse intracellular pathogens. This module contained more miR‐182‐5p (miR‐182) targets than expected. We therefore delivered miR‐182 to macrophages and found it enhanced resistance to intracellular bacteria.
