Primary parotid adenocarcinoma metastasis to the spleen with PIK3CA mutation: cytological findings and review of the literature.

Conclusion: Based on our review of the literature, we believe that this is the first report of such a case. Accurate diagnosis and molecular characterization of the splenic metastasis have a critical impact on the clinical management of the patient. PMID: 29263768 [PubMed - in process]

eykavous Parang N1-(α,β-Alkene)-substituted phenylpyrazolopyrimidine derivatives with acetyl and functionalized phenyl groups at α- and β-positions, respectively, were synthesized by the reaction of 3-phenylpyrazolopyrimidine (PhPP) with bromoacetone, followed by a chalcone reaction with differently substituted aromatic aldehydes. The Src kinase enzyme assay revealed modest inhibitory activity (half maximal inhibitory concentration, IC50 = 21.7–192.1 µM) by a number of PhPP derivatives. Antiproliferative activity of the compounds was evaluated on human leukemia ...

Immunohistochemistry represents an indispensable complement to an epidemiology and morphology-driven approach to tumor diagnosis and site of origin assignment. This review reflects the state of my current practice, based on 15-years’ experience in Pathology and a deep-dive into the literature, always striving to be better equipped to answer the age old questions, “What is it, and where is it from?” The tables and figures in this manuscript are the ones I “pull up on the computer” when I am teaching at the microscope and turn to myself when I am (frequently) stuck. This field is so exciting bec...

Authors: Roşu GA, Furău GO, Ionescu CA, Dimitriu MCT, Neacşu A, Ioan RG, Călin FD, Matei A, Bănacu M, Popescu I, Gheorghiu D, Neacşu I, Bacalbaşa N, Furău CG Abstract Epithelial ovarian carcinoma makes up 90-95% of all ovarian malignancies, taking into account also low-malignant-potential tumors. The Krukenberg tumor is a rare metastatic adenocarcinoma (ADK) in the ovary, representing 1-2% of ovarian tumors. Multiple primary malignant neoplasms may exist when more than one cancerous tumor is diagnosed in the same or a different organ. The incidence of multiple primary cancers among malignancies is between 2...

Conclusion: Although synchronous lesions are rarely encountered, this eventuality should not be omitted. In such cases, surgery should be taken in consideration and the intent of radicality should regard both lesions. PMID: 32235322 [PubMed - in process]

mez P Abstract Five copper complexes supported by terpyridine ligands were prepared and characterized, viz . [Cu 3 Cl 4 ( Naphtpy ) 2 ][CuCl 2 ] ( 1 ), [Cu 2 Cl 2 ( Naphtpy ) 2 ](ClO 4 ) 2 ( 2 ), [CuCl 2 ( Naphtpy )] 2 (MeOH) 3 (H 2 O) ( 3 ), [CuCl 2 ( Cltpy )] ( 4 ) and [Cu( Cltpy ) 2 ](ClO 4 ) 2 ( 5 ); (where Naphtpy stands for 4'-((naphthalen-2-yl)methoxy)-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine and Cltpy for 4'-chloro-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine). Their DNA-interaction abilities were investigated, and their cytotoxic behaviors were examined with three cells lines, namely with human ovarian carcinoma cells (A2780) and its derived ...

Authors: Zhang M, Wang R, Zhao X, Lu L, Wang T Abstract Long intergenic non-coding RNA for kinase activation (LINK-A) has been characterized as an oncogenic long non-coding (lnc)RNA in triple-negative breast cancer and ovarian carcinoma, but its involvement in other malignancies remains elusive. In the present study, it was determined that the plasma levels of LINK-A lncRNA and Rho-associated protein kinase 1 (ROCK1) were significantly increased in patients with pancreatic adenocarcinoma compared with those in healthy controls. The plasma levels of LINK-A lncRNA were positively correlated with the plasma levels of ...

DISCUSSION: For a diagnosis of primary breast cancer of the vulva, a thorough metastatic workup should be performed, with attention directed toward detecting a breast primary disease by results of the history, physical examination, and radiologic examination of the breasts mainly to help confirm that the vulvar lesion is the primary site as opposed to metastasis from a breast primary cancer and also for staging. Management of this rare entity is challenging because of a lack of specific guidelines, and treatment, therefore, is similar to that of breast cancer.Treatment should consist of an individualized combination of sur...

Anti-N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor (NMDA) encephalitis is characterized by a wide spectrum of neuropsychiatric symptoms. Approximately one quarter of the patients with anti-NMDA encephalitis have been reported to have an underlying neoplasm, such as ovarian teratomas, small cell lung carcinoma, uterine adenocarcinoma, prostate adenocarcinoma, Hodgkin lymphoma, neuroblastoma, and pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor [1]. To our knowledge, however, NMDA encephalitis associated with pheochromocytoma has never been reported.

DISCUSSION: Hypercalcemia is a rare but possible primary presenting symptom of ovarian cancer. In these patients, serum calcium measurements could possibly serve as a tumor marker for disease. PMID: 32069206 [PubMed - in process]
