A repurposed drug could open door to more stem cell transplants
(University of British Columbia) Etanercept, a drug used to treat arthritis and psoriasis, boosted the survival of blood stem cells in a mouse model. The findings provide a strong basis for a clinical trial to see whether etanercept or a similar drug would improve outcomes for people receiving blood stem cell transplants.
