CONCLUSION: The knowledge of difference in bio-distribution between two tracers may help in interpretation of PET data. Diagnostic pitfalls can be documented, due to the possibility of PSMA uptake in inflammation. Our results are preliminary to future studies comparing diagnostic accuracies of 68Ga-PSMA and 64Cu-PSMA. pivack David J. Prezant Sarcoidosis is a systemic granulomatous disease of unknown etiology. It may develop in response to an exposure or inflammatory trigger in the background of a genetically primed abnormal immune response. Thus, genetic studies are potentially important to our understanding of the pathogenesis of sarcoidosis. We developed a case-control study which explored the genetic variations between firefighters in the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) with World Trade Center (WTC)-related sarcoidosis and those with WTC exposure, but without sarcoidosis. The loci of fifty-one candidate genes rel...

We report herein our findings in 96 cases in which in situ particle analysis (ISPA) was performed with the SEM. This included 56 cases of pneumoconiosis as well as 40 cases of other types of interstitial lung disease. The most common diagnosis for which ISPA was performed in individuals with pneumoconiosis was mixed dust pneumoconiosis (14 cases). The most common diagnoses for which ISPA was performed in individuals with other diseases were sarcoidosis (13 cases) and hypersensitivity pneumonitis (10 cases). In addition to a detailed description of our methodology, we also report other circumstances in which ISPA assists in...

Our objective was to characterize all our patients with sarcoidosis with emphasis on their clinical presentation and to establish differences between patients with sarcoidosis with and without joint involvement.Method...

Authors: Llabres M, Brito-Zerón P, Ramos-Casals M, Sellares J Abstract INTRODUCTION: Sarcoidosis is a granulomatous systemic disease of unknown cause where the lungs are the most frequently affected. Therapeutic management of the disease is challenging as clinical presentation and prognosis are very heterogeneous. Areas covered: This review summarizes the current knowledge of synthetic therapies for pulmonary sarcoidosis. The most commonly used medication for the treatment of sarcoidosis with lung involvement are glucocorticoids. Nevertheless, not all patients reach an acceptable response or tolerate them an...

Cardiac sarcoidosis is a major cause of death in sarcoidosis patients. In most series, cardiac sarcoidosis is second only to pulmonary sarcoidosis in causes of death related to sarcoidosis [1], although cardiac sarcoidosis has been found to be the leading cause of death in some reports [2,3]. More importantly, the deaths from cardiac sarcoidosis may occur suddenly and early after diagnosis, relating to the development of a small focus of granulomatous inflammation in a strategically vulnerable portion of the cardiac conduction system.

Michael, Zsuzsanna Fabry, Andras Nagy, Matyas SandorSummaryMany autoimmune and infectious diseases are characterized by the formation of granulomas which are inflammatory lesions that consist of spatially organized immune cells. These sites protect the host and control pathogens like Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb), but are highly inflammatory and cause pathology. Using bacille Calmette-Guerin (BCG) and Mtb infection in mice that...

Authors: Gupta N, Chaudhry R, Soneja M, Valappil VE, Malla S, Razik A, Vyas S, Ray A, Khan MA, Kumar U, Wig N Abstract Oligoarticular arthritis (inflammation of upto 4 joints) has a wide range of infectious and non-infectious etiologies. The aim of our study was to identify the features which could help in the differentiation of infectious from non-infectious arthritis. The study was prospective and observational, and included 100 patients with oligoarticular inflammatory arthritis. The final diagnosis was made using standard diagnostic criteria and the patients were categorized into infectious and non-infectious g...
