In conclusion, progenitor cell activation differs between primary sclerosing cholangitis and primary biliary cholangitis and is characterized by a divergent fate commitment and different signaling pathway predominance. In primary biliary cholangitis, ductular reaction represents a relevant histologic prognostic marker.
