Conclusions: Among stroke patients in ICU, we identified significant risk factors of stroke-associated AKI. Serum CysC level at ICU admission was an important biomarker for predicting AKI and 28-day mortality.Blood Purif

Abstract In the United States, stroke ranks fifth among all causes of death and is the leading cause of serious long-term disability. The 2018 American Heart Association stroke care guidelines consider endovascular thrombectomy to be the standard of care for patients who have acute ischemic stroke in the anterior circulation when arterial puncture can be made within 6 hours of symptom onset or within 6-24 hours of symptom onset when specific eligibility criteria are satisfied. The aim of this 2-part review is to provide practical perspective on the clinical literature regarding anesthesia care of patients treated ...

Authors: Kaufman JM, Lapauw B, Mahmoud A, T'Sjoen G, Huhtaniemi IT Abstract This narrative review presents an overview of present knowledge on fertility and reproductive hormones changes in aging men, the factors driving and modulating these changes, their clinical consequences, and benefits and risks of testosterone (T) therapy. Aging is accompanied by moderate decline of gamete quality and fertility. Population mean levels show mild total T decline, SHBG increase, steeper free T decline, and moderate LH increase with important contribution of comorbidities (e.g. obesity) to these changes. Sexual symptoms and lowe...

In this study, we identified 636 differentially expressed genes enriched for several pathways that were partially overlapping or interconnected in terms of similar gene function. The involvement of several genes in IPC-induced neuroprotection was first reported. Genes induced by IPC, including Arid5a, Nptx2 and Stc2, demonstrated a neuroprotective effect against oxygen–glucose deprivation induced neurotoxicity in vitro. Thus, our findings provide new insights into IPC signaling pathways and offer a novel therapeutic strategy towards stroke.

Authors: Ho KC, Speier W, El-Saden S, Arnold CW Abstract Models have been developed to predict stroke outcomes (e.g., mortality) in attempt to provide better guidance for stroke treatment. However, there is little work in developing classification models for the problem of unknown time-since-stroke (TSS), which determines a patient's treatment eligibility based on a clinical defined cutoff time point (i.e.,
