Time to Implement the Kidney Failure Risk Equation Into Pediatric Practice

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a major public health problem with an increasing prevalence among adults and children. Children with CKD experience increased morbidity and mortality and growth and metabolic complications and have a high lifetime risk of progression to kidney failure requiring dialysis or transplant. Disease progression to kidney failure further accelerates these metabolic changes and leads to disability and a meaningful reduction in lifespan.
