CONCLUSION: This large study shows that the proportion of children with delayed vaccination in France was globally high and substantial for Men-C and the first MMR vaccination. Risk of a delayed second and third dose was increased with a delayed first dose, which may reflect vaccine hesitancy. PMID: 30638762 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Conclusion Our survey demonstrates a wide variation regarding the timing of live-attenuated vaccines after autologous HSCT or after immunoglobulin administration and regarding immunization against encapsulated bacteria. Many centers do not adhere to current recommendations. Studies should focus on a detailed analysis of the epidemiology of infections with encapsulated bacteria after pediatric autologous HSCT as well as on the immune recovery and the response to revaccination in this setting. Authors: Aba YT, Gagneux-Brunon A, Andrillat C, Fouilloux P, Daoud F, Defontaine C, Lucht F, Botelho-Nevers E Abstract BACKGROUND: Travelers may be responsible for the spread of vaccine-preventable diseases upon return. Travel physicians and family physicians may play a role in checking and updating vaccinations before traveling. Our aim was to evaluate the vaccine coverage for mandatory and recommended vaccination in travelers attending a travel medicine clinic (TMC). METHODS: Vaccine coverage was measured using the current French immunization schedule as reference for correct immunization, in travelers provid...

A phenomenon which has always puzzled me is popular resistance to vaccination. It goes back to the very beginning, vaccination against smallpox, which was a terrible scourge that killed 30% of its victims and left the rest disfigured. When Edward Jenner proved in 1796 that inoculation with cowpox, which caused only mild disease, conferred immunity to smallpox, the world was given a priceless gift.Yet popular movements arose almost immediately to oppose vaccination, both in England and the U.S. Eventually smallpox vaccination became widely accepted, and smallpox was eradicated from the earth. Later, the terror of the polio ...

CONCLUSION: Our study calls attention to the insufficient vaccination of adolescents for pertussis, HBV, meningococcal C disease, and HPV. The absence of a system that routinely provides the vaccination status of this population is a major public health issue in France. The use of an electronic immunization record was innovative, but this tool is not extensively used in the general population and has been evaluated by Santé publique France (the French national public health agency). Conclusion: This study showed an increased occurrence of ITP after MMR and meningococcal C vaccines. It is reassuring for other vaccines. We cannot exclude temporal association with MMR and meningococcal C vaccines due to the peak of ITP incidence at 12 months of age in the general population. However, vaccine-induced ITP is a very rare event, which does not cast doubt on the interest of vaccination.DisclosuresNo relevant conflicts of interest to declare.
