Study Pokes Holes in Kratom ’s ‘Bad Rap’

A recently published scientific review led by URMC associate professor of Psychiatry Marc Swogger, Ph.D., may help reduce misconceptions about the controversial plant kratom and highlight its potential as a tool to treat opioid addiction that deserves more research. The study points to kratom's potential as a safer substitute for opioids and suggests it also may help reduce negative mood and relieve anxiety.
