Pilot experience of acupuncture in ameliorating the gag reflex in posterior tongue and oropharyngeal biopsies

Introduction/Aims: The use of acupuncture to control the gag reflex in dental procedures is widely reported in the literature. Fiske and Dickinson (2001) described the use of acupuncture to assist in a biopsy of the tongue. Despite this, there are very few reports of the use of acupuncture to reduce the gag reflex in oral biopsies.
