Revisiting Type 1 Diabetes as a Comorbidity in Patients with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis
Improved knowledge of comorbidities associated with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) could help identify complications, help direct long-term disease management, and determine prognosis. Associations of JIA with other autoimmune conditions, such as type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1D), autoimmune thyroiditis, and celiac disease, have been reported.1-4 Although previous studies reported an increased prevalence of autoimmune disorders in JIA,1,4 they were limited by relatively smaller cohort size and referral bias, precluding a definitive conclusion.
