(MedPage Today) -- Case Findings: A 44-year-old woman visited her doctor after experiencing nail pain and noticing a purple-blue lesion under her fingernail that didn ' t go away after more than a week. Although she spent a lot of time doing odd jobs around the house and in their workshop, she couldn ' t remember hitting it with a hammer or having a recent injury. She complained that every time she washed her hands in cold water the pain was exacerbated, but she had noticed that if she held the finger very tightly at the base it felt better.
