Participation and interest in support services among family caregivers of older adults with cancer

ConclusionsA large proportion of family caregivers, including those experiencing depression and anxiety symptoms and who were underprepared, are not using formal support services but have a strong interest in services. Strategies to increase service use may include targeting distressed caregivers early in their caregiving experience.

CONCLUSION: The prognostic effect of CHEK1 was validated based on the expression profile data of 615 low-grade glioma and glioblastoma samples. We proposed CHEK1 as prognostic biomarker for HGA. Our work might provide the candidate target for HGA therapy. PMID: 29781781 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Abstract Although limb –girdle muscular dystrophies (LGMD) can cause permanent disability, to date there are no studies that examined quality of life (QoL) in these patients. Our aim was to evaluate QoL in patients with LGMD, and to identify the most significant predictors of QoL. The study comprised 46 patients with di agnosis of limb–girdle muscular weakness. QoL in patients was evaluated using two scales—SF-36 questionnaire and the Individualized Neuromuscular Quality of Life questionnaire (INQoL). Following scales were also applied: Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), Hamilton Scale for Depression (HamD...

In conclusion, depressed patients had lower serum miRNA-451a but higher serum miRNA-34a-5p and miRNA-221-3p, and these miRNAs are potential predictors of the efficacy of antidepressants. PMID: 29791588 [PubMed - in process]

Abstract Several microRNAs (miRNAs) have been reported as oncogenes or tumor suppressors in many cancers, including gastric cancer (GC). However, the role and molecular mechanism of miR-3129 in GC is largely unknown. We aimed to explore the function and the underlying molecular mechanism of miR-3129 in GC. Cancer tissues and corresponding adjacent tissues were collected from 50 patients with GC, and the expression of miR-3129 was detected by RT-qPCR. The expression of miR-3129 and pRb in human GC cell line SCG7091 was altered by transient transfection. Thereafter, MTT and flow cytometry assays were used to analyze...

This study demonstrated that CCAT1 exhibited pro-proliferative and pro-metastasis functions on FTC-133 cells and activated PI3K/AKT and MAPK signaling pathways via down-regulation of miR-143. These findings will provide a possible target for clinical treatment of thyroid cancer. PMID: 29791590 [PubMed - in process]

AbstractThe Human Genome Project and the continuing advances in DNA sequencing technology have ushered in a new era in genomic medicine. Successful translation of genomic medicine into clinical care will require that providers of this information are aware of the level of understanding, attitudes, perceived risks, benefits, and concerns of their patients. We used a mixed methods approach to conduct in-depth interviews with participants in the NCI-funded Breast Cancer Family Registry (BCFR). Our goal was to gain a better understanding of attitudes towards different types and amounts of genomic information, current interest ...

Elzoghby The self-tumor targeting polymers, lactoferrin (LF) and hyaluronic acid (HA) were utilized to develop layer-by-layer (LbL) lipid nanoparticles (NPs) for dual delivery of berberine (BER) and rapamycin (RAP) to lung cancer. To control its release from the NPs, BER was hydrophobically ion paired with SLS prior to incorporation into NPs. Spherical HA/LF-LbL-RAP-BER/SLS-NPs 250.5 nm in diameter, with a surface charge of −18.5 mV ...
