Re: Assessing the effects of manual dexterity and playing computer games on catheter-wire manipulation for inexperienced operators
Alsafi and colleagues provide an interesting perspective on the relationship between manual dexterity quantified in terms of video-gaming hours and interventional radiology skills.1 The authors suggest that practical aptitude tests be incorporated into the selection process for interventional radiology (IR). We argue that non-specific aptitude for practical skills may be superseded by deliberate practice of specific skills, and that commitment to deliberate practice that should be taken into account when devising an IR selection process.
