Increased Reporting of Exclusionary Diagnoses Inflate Apparent Reductions in Long-Stay Antipsychotic Prescribing.

Increased Reporting of Exclusionary Diagnoses Inflate Apparent Reductions in Long-Stay Antipsychotic Prescribing. Clin Gerontol. 2017 Oct 24;:1-5 Authors: Winter JD, Kerns JW, Winter KM, Sabo RT Abstract OBJECTIVE: Over the two years following the 2012 introduction of CMS's National Partnership, combined rates of schizophrenia, Tourette's, and Huntington's in US long-stay residents increased 12%. We evaluated trends in reporting of these diagnoses for the subgroup of long-stay residents on antipsychotics. METHODS: Retrospective analysis of Virginia Medicaid claims identified annual utilization rates of psychiatric diagnoses for long-stay seniors on antipsychotics. Chi-square analysis compared rates for the year before March, 2012 with the same 12-month period 1 year later. A 5-year pre-existing baseline rate was also obtained. RESULTS: Diagnosis rates for 2011 were unchanged from baseline. Comparing 2011 with 2013, diagnoses rates for schizophrenia, Tourette's, and Huntington's combined increased 40% (p

Vetchinova, S.N. Illarioshkin, S.M. ZakianAbstractHuntington's disease (HD) is an autosomal dominant neurodegenerative disease caused by CAG repeat expansion in the HTT gene. HD patient-specific induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) represent an excellent model for the disease study. We generated iPSC line from blood mononuclear cells of HD patient with 38 CAG repeats in the HTT exon 1 using integration free episomal plasmids exp...

ConclusionData revealed a gap between concepts and emotional and cognitive experiences. Both professional and experiential language and knowledge have to be considered as complementary. Consequently, the ICD should be co-constructed by professionals, service users, and carers. It should take the emotional component of language, and the diversity of linguistic and cultural contexts, into account.

AVH frequently interfere with social relationships or result in dangerous behaviours. We hypothesize that in schizophrenia several vulnerability factors, especially when a subject is engaged in real or represented interpersonal transactions, lead to the appearance of AVHs, and favo...

ConclusionsDifferent patterns of sleep disturbances are observed in HD patients: insomnia, difficulties in falling asleep, frequent nocturnal awakenings, and excessive daytime sleepiness are the most common sleep problems reported by patients with HD. In several HD studies, specific changes in sleep architecture and in circadian melatonin secretion were identified in laboratory testing.Sleep disorders in HD have diverse and complex determinants, the most significant of which includes damage to brain areas that are responsible for the proper sleep pattern and circadian rhythm regulation. Sleep and circadian rhythm disorders...

Abstract Cannabis sativa is also popularly known as marijuana. It is being cultivated and used by man for recreational and medicinal purposes from many centuries. Study of cannabinoids was at bay for very long time and its therapeutic value could not be adequately harnessed due to its legal status as proscribed drug in most of the countries. The research of drugs acting on endocannabinoid system has seen many ups and down in recent past. Presently, it is known that endocannabinoids has role in pathology of many disorders and they also serve "protective role" in many medical conditions Several diseases li...
