I read with interest the article by Hocker et al.1 I took care of a 45-year-old man several years ago with neurotropic squamous cell carcinoma of the oropharynx (T2N0M0). His brother and paternal uncle had testicular cancer, and his mother had breast cancer. Three months after his initial resection, he developed neuropathic pain of the tongue, and MRI showed tumor recurrence. Two weeks later, he developed classic Miller-Fisher syndrome with mild ophthalmoparesis, ataxia, areflexia, elevated CSF protein, and an elevated anti-Gq1b. He was treated with IV immunoglobulin and did well. Two weeks later, he underwent repeat surge...

CONCLUSIONS: Molecular tumor analysis is an infrequently utilized tool in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma; however, as understanding of biologic mechanisms improves, additional molecular targets will become available and expand treatment opportunities such as HER2/Neu targeting. The Exceptional Responders Initiative is a unique strategy with potential to expedite progress. PMID: 28061634 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Conclusion This narrative review aimed to summarise data from published biological and epidemiological research to discuss the strength of evidence that alcohol causes cancer. The author gives their main finding as a link between alcohol consumption and cancer at seven sites, and also that the highest risks seem to be associated with heavier drinking. However, they state there's no "safe" drinking threshold and that low to moderate consumption still contributes to a significant number of cancer cases. The biggest limitation of this review is that it doesn't appear to be systematic. The author provided no method...

We report a case of cisplatin usage concurrently with radiation in unresectable head and neck cancer (SCC), along with a review of the literature, demonstrating the safety of its use. A 52-year-old lady with unresectable T4N2cMx oropharyngeal SCC was on immunosuppression with tacrolimus x 6 years following a cadaveric kidney transplant. She was treated with definitive concurrent chemoradiation with cisplatin. She received prophylactic intravenous saline (IVF) three-times-a-week. She received 6 weekly doses of 40mg/m2 cisplatin (cumulative dose 240mg/m2) I.V concurrent with radiation, with no significant change in renal fun...
