Common Laboratory Abnormalities Caused by Paraneoplastic Syndrome

Paraneoplastic syndromes that cause abnormalities in hematologic and serum chemistry parameters often have a poor prognosis.1 Understanding the underlying pathogenic mechanisms of paraneoplastic syndromes can help direct treatment strategies and improve outcome. The purpose of this article is to summarize the current knowledge of mechanisms by which paraneoplastic syndromes affect complete blood count and serum chemistry profiles.
