Seno Medical ’s Imagio Combines Optoacoustics with Ultrasound to Diagnose Breast Cancer

At last week’s RSNA conference in Chicago, we got a chance to learn about Seno Medical Instruments, a San Antonio, Texas company, and its imaging technology that combines conventional ultrasound with a new modality called optoacoustic imag...

Publication date: November 2018Source: Academic Radiology, Volume 25, Issue 11Author(s): Rossella Rella, Paolo Belli, Michela Giuliani, Enida Bufi, Giorgio Carlino, Pierluigi Rinaldi, Riccardo ManfrediAutomated breast ultrasonography (ABUS) is a new imaging technology for automatic breast scanning through ultrasound. It was first developed to overcome the limitation of operator dependency and lack of standardization and reproducibility of handheld ultrasound. ABUS provides a three-dimensional representation of breast tissue and allows images reformatting in three planes, and the generated coronal plane has been suggested t...

Conclusion: US can demonstrate or exclude a true mass against the background of a nodular breast parenchyma. Radiologists must be aware of malignant US features to avoid delays in the diagnosis of pregnancy-associated breast cancer.Breast Care

Conclusion Axillary recurrence was very rare in patient who underwent SLNB; additional axillary scanning did not provide axillary recurrence detection, but only increased the number of false-positive recalls and biopsies. PMID: 30282484 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Conclusion Although there are biological changes in breast tissue properties during the MC, we did not observe statistically significant changes in the average values of MUT refractivity and attenuation images in each breast for different weeks of the MC. This finding implies that the diagnostic accuracy of the MUT may not be affected by the timing of the scan during the MC. PMID: 30282480 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

AbstractThe internal mammary lymph node (IMLN) chain is a pathway through which breast lymphatic drainage flows. The internal mammary lymphatic vessel runs around the internal mammary artery and veins with IMLN in the parasternal intercostal spaces. IMLN metastasis, which forms a part of clinical TNM staging, may negatively affect the prognosis of primary breast cancer patients. IMLN metastasis is clinically detected using ultrasound, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and18F-deoxyglucose positron emission tomography computed tomography. The uptake of radioactive tracers in IMLN with clinically negative axill...

ConclusionsThough less performing than MRI, DBT-ABVS showed acceptable diagnostic accuracy in staging breast cancer. This strategy might be used if MRI is unavailable or unfeasible.

In conclusion, the results of the present study indicate that LFU and microbubbles combined with simvastatin promotes the apoptosis of MCF‑7 cells via the LATS1/YAP/RHAMM pathway. The present study suggested a possible strategy for the treatment of breast cancer. PMID: 30015955 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

ConclusionA SNB should become the standard after NACT if case of a cN0. If after NACT the PET CT has normalized, no ALND should be performed if the SN is negative.

In this study response measurement was done with 3-D ultrasound by Automated Breast Volume Scanner (ABVS) and compared to breast MRI. Moreover, patient satisfaction with both techniques was compared. Methods and materialsA single-institution, prospective observational pilot study evaluating tumour response by ABVS in addition to breast MRI (standard care) was performed in 25 invasive breast cancer patients receiving NAC. Tumour response was evaluated comparing longest tumour diameters as well as tumour volumes at predefined time points using Bland-Altman analysis. Volume measurements for breast MRI were obtained using a ful...
