Outpatient Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery.

Outpatient Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery. Orthop Clin North Am. 2018 Jan;49(1):55-62 Authors: Miller DJ, Nelson SE, Shah AS, Ganley TJ, Flynn JJM Abstract Outpatient surgery refers to a surgical procedure that is performed without an overnight stay in a hospital. Outpatient surgery is associated with decreased individual and societal costs while achieving equivalent health outcomes and excellent patient satisfaction. Successful outpatient pediatric surgery is predicated on appropriate patient selection, adequate pain control, thorough preoperative education, and close clinical follow-up. Continuous research in quality, value, and patient safety are needed to ensure that this practice continues in as safe and efficient a manner as possible. PMID: 29145984 [PubMed - in process]
