Amblyomma ovale parasitizing a human

AbstractThe present study aims to report a case study regarding the parasitism in humans due toAmblyomma ovale in the west side of Santa Catarina, southern Brazil. The parasitized individual noticed the ectoparasite after visiting an area of forest and riverbank in that region, site also visited by cattle. The tick was then removed and placed in a 70% alcohol tube. In laboratory, it was visualized in stereomicroscope and identified according to the appropriate dichotomous key of the genus. The collected mite was an adult female, identified asA. ovale.

Duncan, Daivid Vlahov, Joshua WarrenAbstractDrug- and alcohol-poisoning deaths remain current public health problems. Studies to date have typically focused on individual-level predictors of drug overdose deaths, and there remains a limited understanding of the spatiotemporal patterns and predictors of the joint outcomes. We use a hierarchical Bayesian spatiotemporal multivariate Poisson regression model on data from (N=167) ZIP-codes between 2009 and 2014 in New York City...

Resmetirom (MGL-3196) is a liver-directed, orally active, selective thyroid hormone receptor-β agonist designed to improve NASH by increasing hepatic fat metabolism and reducing lipotoxicity....

ConclusionThe findings indicate diversity in patient views on EHR sensitivity and data sharing preferences and the need for more granular and patient-centered electronic consent mechanisms to accommodate patient needs. More research is needed to validate the generalizability of the proposed methodology.Graphical abstract

Conclusions: Alcohol use was prevalent and under-reported among pregnant WLWH in South Africa and Uganda, similar to nonpregnant participants, and associated with depression. General health care and antenatal clinic settings present opportunities to provide integrated alcohol-based counseling and depression treatment.

ConclusionsMothers ’ chronic and excessive postpartum alcohol consumption during early parenthood can be a significant risk factor for difficulties in children’s early executive function development. Early screening for mothers with unhealthy alcohol consumption habits is critical. Special attention and support sh ould be afforded to their children’s development and school adjustment.

Funding Opportunity RFA-AA-20-006 from the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts. The goal of this FOA is to support basic and clinical research on the influence of alcohol on susceptibility and progression of Alzheimers disease and its related dementias. Recent longitudinal studies have provided strong evidence that alcohol use disorder is associated with the high risk of all types of dementias, and frequent heavy drinking increases risk of both Alzheimers disease and vascular dementia. Even moderate alcohol consumption may be a risk factor for adverse brain outcomes and cognitive decline. Although these studies link heavy ...

In this study, it was found that acetaldehyde treatment induced excessive mitochondrial fragmentation, impaired mitochondrial function and caused cytotoxicity in cortical neurons and SH-SY5Y cells. Further analyses showed that acetaldehyde induced the phosphorylation of mitochondrial fission related protein dynamin-related protein 1 (Drp1) at Ser616 and promoted its translocation to mitochondria. The elevation of Drp1 phosphorylation was partly dependent on the reactive oxygen species (ROS)-mediated activation of c-Jun-N-terminal kinase (JNK) and p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK), as N-acetyl-l-cysteine (NAC) pre...
