Recurrent myxoma arising from multiple cardiac chambers with systemic embolization:a case report.

We report an adolescent girl presenting with recurrent myxoma arising from multiple cardiac chambers with systemic embolization. As a diagnostic and preventive measure of recurrence and chronic systemic embolization, we recommend a regular follow up of such patients with echocardiographic evaluation following surgical resection. Abstract Decoctions prepared from the roots of Astragali Radix are known as "Huangqi" and are widely used in traditional Chinese medicine for treatment of viral and bacterial infections, inflammation, as well as cancer. Astragaloside IV (AS-IV), one of the major compounds from the aqueous extract of Astragalus membranaceus, is a cycloartane-type triterpene glycoside chemical. To date, many studies in cellular and animal models have demonstrated that AS-IV possesses potent protective effects in cardiovascular, lung, kidney and brain. Based on studies over the past several decades, this review systematical...

AbstractDopamine, noradrenaline and adrenaline are catecholamines, and are all produced along the same metabolic pathway. Their discovery dates back to the early 1900s, and they were appreciated until the second half of the century mainly for their role in the brain and in the regulation of autonomic functions. Nonetheless, in the 1970s characterization of the key role of sympathoadrenergic nerve fibers in the cross-talk between the brain and the immune system paved the way to the raise of modern neuroimmunology, and understanding the immune effects of dopamine occurred in the subsequent decades. Both adrenergic and dopami...

Wnt signaling is a complicated but well studied portion of the regulatory systems governing regeneration. Numerous groups are engaged in the commercial development of regenerative therapies that are based on manipulation of this part of mammalian biochemistry. Of the more prominent ventures, Samumed has reached phase 3 trials with treatments of this type. This open access paper walks through the evidence for Wnt signaling to be a useful point of intervention for researchers aiming to increase neurogenesis and regenerative capacity in the aging brain. This will be developed as a means of treating neurodegenerative condition...

The American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM) offers an opportunity for members to be the guest editor of a Supplement to its journal, the Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (Archives). The goal of the ACRM supplements is to publish high quality scientific manuscripts, which are thematically organized and of interest to ACRM members and to the general readership of the Archives. We are interested in proposals in all fields of rehabilitation, but especially those of interest to the ACRM membership as indicated by the existence of special interest and networking groups for brain injury, spinal cord in...

Pheochromocytoma (PCC) and paraganglioma (PGL) are rare neuroendocrine tumors associated with high cardiovascular morbidity and variable risk of malignancy. The current therapy of choice is surgical resection. Nevertheless, PCCs/PGLs are associated with a lifelong risk of tumor persistence or recurrence. A high rate of germline or somatic mutations in numerous genes has been found in these tumors. For some, the tumorigenic processes are initiated during embryogenesis. Such tumors carry gene mutations leading to pseudohypoxic phenotypes and show more immature characteristics than other chromaffin cell tumors; they are also ...

Conclusion: In future investigations, focusing on the genetic basis of the glioma patients in line with imaging studies on a larger sample size, which is known as genetics imaging, would be a suitable approach for tracing this process.

In this study, we found that eriodictyol has anti-tumor activity in lung, colon, breast, pancreas, and liver cancer, and most significantly in glioma cell lines. Eriodictyol dose- and time-dependently suppresses cell proliferation, migration, and invasion in U87MG and CHG-5 glioma cells. In addition, eriodictyol induces apoptosis in U87MG and CHG-5 cells, as evaluated by flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, and Western blot. Furthermore, eriodictyol downregulates the phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)/Akt/NF-κB signaling pathway in a concentration-dependent manner. Moreover, the effects of eriodictyol on the apoptosis o...
