Aripiprazole-induced tardive dyskinesia in patients with schizophrenia: A case report of twins

Indisputably, tardive dyskinesia (TD) is the most important and latent irreversible side effect of antipsychotic treatment (Bergman et al., 2017). Muller et al. reports that having a family history of TD may contribute to an individual developing TD, but found no correlation between family history of schizophrenia and TD (Muller et al., 2001). The risk for developing aripiprazole-induced TD remains unknown. To date, only a small fraction of TD has been reportedly caused by aripiprazole, and to our knowledge, this is the first case report of twin schizophrenic patients with TD.
