Veritas out as United Medical Center operator
The D.C. Council on Tuesday cut ties with the company overseeing operations at District-owned United Medical Center, ending another chapter in the long saga of the troubled Southeast D.C. hospital.
The council voted 7-6 to block a one-year, $4.2 million contract extension for Veritas of Washington, a D.C. company with ties to Mayor Muriel Bowser. Veritas was tapped by the Department of Health Care Finance to run UMC under an emergency contract in April 2016.
