Oral evidence of antiresorptives in osteoporosis

The most common indications for the use of bisphosphonates and other antiresorptive agents are osteoporosis, Paget ’s disease, hyperparathyroidism, metastatic malignancy, hypercalcemia of malignancy, and multiple myeloma. These agents can have a significant impact on the oral environment, including bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (BRONJ) and medicine-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ). Some of the effects on the oral environment can be evident radiographically. Understanding these changes may help the dental practitioner plan treatment and better understand patients’ risks and the complexity of their condition.
