The association between NFKBIA polymorphisms and the progression of chronic hepatitis B virus infection among the Chinese Han population.

The association between NFKBIA polymorphisms and the progression of chronic hepatitis B virus infection among the Chinese Han population. Jpn J Infect Dis. 2017 Oct 31;: Authors: Lin Y, Su C, Niu J, Guo Z, Lu Y Abstract Based on the involvement of NFKIBA (NF-κB Inhibitor Alpha) in the NF-κB pathway, which is closely related with host immunity, and this present study aimed to determine if NFKIBA polymorphisms are associated with the disease progression of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. Our study collected blood samples from a total of 212 treatment-naïve patients with chronic HBV infection were included in present study, and the blood samples were collected. NFKBIA polymorphisms were determined by using Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/ Ionization Time of Flight Mass Spectrometry. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays were employed to quantify the serum levels of TNF-α and IL-6. An unconditional logistic regression revealed that carriers of TT genotype at rs2233406 had a greater risk (OR=5.57, 95%CI=2.14-14.52) of chronic HBV infection progression. A similar association was observed for the rs2233409 polymorphism, in which the OR for the TT genotype was 4.06 (95%CI=1.70-9.71) when compared with the wildtype CC genotype. Mutations at rs2233406 and rs2233409 also impact liver function parameters and cytokine levels. However, null associations were between these parameters and polymorphism rs696. These finding suggest that the...

Nine years earlier, the patient had been diagnosed with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and undergone rituximab, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin hydrochloride, oncovin, prednisone (R-CHOP) therapy. This patient previously had had a hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection before chemotherapy. After the chemotherapy, he was administered an LHRH agonist for prostate can...

Netter : Hepatitis B remains one of the major global health problems more than 40 years after the identification of human hepatitis B virus (HBV) as the causative agent. A critical turning point in combating this virus was the development of a preventative vaccine composed of the HBV surface (envelope) protein (HBsAg) to reduce the risk of new infections. The isolation of HBsAg sub-viral particles (SVPs) from the blood of asymptomatic HBV carriers as antigens for the first-generation vaccines, followed by the development of recombinant HBsAg SVPs produced in yeast as the antigenic components of the second-generation va...

This study confirms that hepatitis E is the leading cause of acute jaundice, leads to hospitalizations in all regions in Bangladesh, occurs throughout the year, and is associated with considerable morbidity and mortal ity. Effective control measures should be taken to reduce the risk of HEV infections including improvements in water quality, sanitation and hygiene practices and the introduction of HEV vaccine to high-risk groups.

Authors: Liu Y, Shi C, Fan J, Wang B, Li G Abstract Introduction: Multiple studies have revealed a strong relationship between the development of nephropathy and hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. The underlying pathogenesis of hepatitis B-related glomerulonephritis (HBV-GN) involves immune complexes, which can be isolated from kidney tissues. Clearance of HBV antigenemia improves renal impairment and proteinuria in HBV-GN patients.Areas covered: In this review, we present our current understanding of the epidemiology, pathogenesis, pathology, diagnosis, and treatment of HBV-GN. We discuss the advantages and disadv...

Abstract Ultramarine blue particles as a novel visible label has been used to develop immunochromatographic assay (ICA). The ultramarine blue particles, as a sodalite mineral with formula: (Na,Ca)8[(S,Cl,SO4,OH)2(Al6Si6O24)], can generate a blue visible signal were used as a label for ICA. Ultramarine blue particles were applied to a sandwich immunoassay to detect hepatitis B virus surface antigen (HBsAg). Ultramarine blue particles were separated from ultramarine blue industrial product by centrifugation. The polyacrylic acid (PAA) was used to modify the carboxyl group on the surface of ultramarine blue particles...
