Why Family Planning Policy and Practice Must Guarantee a True Choice of Contraceptive Methods

HIGHLIGHTS The ability to choose from among the full range of contraceptive methods encourages consistent and effective contraceptive use and leads to positive outcomes. Protecting the right of all people to choose the contraceptive methods they prefer —or no method at all—is necessary to prevent reproductive coercion. Federal policies and programs have long promoted and required contraceptive choice in multiple ways and must expand on those assurances, not diminish them.
