The impact factor is a publishing metric that is determined by Clarivate Analytics (previously known as Thompson Reuters) that objectively categorizes the impact of a journal based on the number of citations that it has. The calculation is such that the number of citations to published articles over a given period of time is divided by the number of new published articles over that same given period of time. The impact factor of the Journal of Pediatric Urology in 2014 was 0.898. This was a result of a transition that was taking place at the Journal from a full print journal to a hybrid journal and in order to make this transition a significant number of backlogged articles needed to be published over a short period of time.
