UAB researchers make discovery for treating seizure disorders
UAB researchers have made a discovery in seizure and epilepsy diseases in the brain.
The researchers found that inducing a biochemical alteration in proteins located in the brain though a dietary supplement glucosamine, is able to rapidly dampen pathological hyperexcitability in rat and mouse models. The protein, named O-GlcNAcylation, was heavily researched. It was discovered the protein has a regulating effect in treating pathological hyperexcitablility in the brain.
