This study aimed at optimization of solid-state fermentation by Aspergillus niger CCUG33991 for maximum xylanase production using low-cost agro-industrial residues 1 1 Agricultural- industrial residues in tray bioreactor. SSF 2 2 Solid- state fermentation was performed using wheat bran, sorghum stover, corn cob and soybean meal in flasks for investigation of appropriate substrate, initial pH, media composition and minerals solution. Thereafter, the obtained results combined with results of earlier experiments were used for exploring the effects of particle size, initial moisture content and temperature in tray bioreactor. ...

ConclusionClinical manifestations of gastrointestinal aspergillosis are nonspecific, such as abdominal pain, and only occasionally it presents as an acute abdomen. Antemortem detection of bowel involvement is rarely achieved and, only in cases of complicated gastrointestinal aspergillosis, the diagnosis is achieved thanks to the findings during surgery. Gastrointestinal aspergillosis should be suspected in patients with severe and prolonged neutropenia with or without pulmonary involvement in order to consider the right therapy and prompt surgery.

In this study it was investigated the role of ZafA on gene expression at a genome wide scale by comparing the transcriptional profile of a wild-type strain of A. fumigatus with that of a dzafA null strain grown in zinc-limiting media. The analysis of the results indicated that among genes up-regulated under zinc-limiting conditions were those most directly involved in zinc homeostasis such as zafA, that encoded for the ZafA transcriptional regulator of zinc homeostasis, zrfA, zrfB and zrfC that encoded zinc transporters presumably located at the plasma membrane and zrfF that encodes a zinc transporter located presumably at...

l W Abstract Echinocandins are antifungal nonribosomal hexapeptides produced by fungi. Two of the amino acids are hydroxy-l-prolines: trans-4-hydroxy-l-proline and, in most echinocandin structures, (trans-2,3)-3-hydroxy-(trans-2,4)-4-methyl-l-proline. In the case of echinocandin biosynthesis by Glarea lozoyensis, both amino acids are found in pneumocandin A0, while in pneumocandin B0 the latter residue is substituted by trans-3- hydroxy-l-proline (3-Hyp). We have recently reported that all three amino acids are generated by the 2-oxoglutarate-dependent proline hydroxylase GloF. In echinocandin B biosynthesis by As...

This study was conducted to investigate the natural co‐occurrence of 295 fungal and bacterial metabolites in 28 samples of dried date palm fruits collected from different shops distributed in Assiut Governorate, Upper Egypt in 2016. Extraction and quantification of the target analytes were done using the “dilute and shoot” approach followed by liquid chromatography‐tandem mass spectrometry (LC‐MS/MS) analysis. In total, 30 toxic fungal metabolites were detected. Among these metabolites, 4 types of ochratoxins including ochratoxin type A and B were quantified in 3 samples (11%) with a contamination range f...

Authors: Gutarowska B, Izdebski M Abstract An expert program has been developed for users working in industrial laboratories who are not experts in the identification of filamentous fungi. The database of morphological growth features currently contains 12 species from the genera Aspergillus and Penicillium grown under standard conditions. The identification algorithm implemented in the database takes into account the reliability of users, which can vary over a wide range depending on the identification feature. The reliability of users was estimated on the basis of a questionnaire survey conducted among 27 non-exp...

Authors: Saif MJ, Zuber M, Anwar J, Munawar MA Abstract The antimicrobial activity of two new series of bis-piperidinium compounds with alkyl chains of different lengths against bacterial (Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis) and fungal strains (Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus niger, Rhodolorula rubera, Lipomyces lopofera and Candida albicans), are described. Antimicrobial activities of the synthesized compounds were compared to that of dodecyltrimethylammonium chloride. Bis-piperidinium salts possessing 12-16 carbon side chains showed better antimicrobial propertie...
