Antifungal spectrum, in vivo efficacy, and structure-activity relationship of ilicicolin H

Ilicicolin H is a polyketide-nonribosomal peptide synthase (NRPS)-natural product isolated from Gliocadium roseum, which exhibits potent and broad spectrum antifungal activity, with sub- μg/mL MICs against Candida spp., Aspergillus fumigatus, and Cryptococcus spp. It showed a novel mode of action, potent inhibition (IC50 = 2-3 ng/mL) of the mitochondrial cytochrome bc1 reductase, and over 1000-fold selectivity relative to rat liver cytochrome bc1 reductase.

Authors: Saif MJ, Zuber M, Anwar J, Munawar MA Abstract The antimicrobial activity of two new series of bis-piperidinium compounds with alkyl chains of different lengths against bacterial (Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis) and fungal strains (Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus niger, Rhodolorula rubera, Lipomyces lopofera and Candida albicans), are described. Antimicrobial activities of the synthesized compounds were compared to that of dodecyltrimethylammonium chloride. Bis-piperidinium salts possessing 12-16 carbon side chains showed better antimicrobial propertie...

FAME is an ideal super-curator and superior anti-pathogenic. The present study evaluated the efficiency of FAME extracted from microalgae Scenedesmus intermedius as an antimicrobial agent against Gram positive (Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus mutans, and Bacillus cereus) Gram negative (Escherichia coli and Pse...

Publication date: 5 April 2018 Source:Journal of Molecular Structure, Volume 1157 Author(s): Ayman K. El-Sawaf, Farag El-Essawy, Amal A. Nassar, El-Sayed A. El-Samanody The coordination characteristic of new N4-morpholinyl isatin-3-thiosemicarbazone (HL) towards Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Pd(II) has been studies. The structures of the complexes were described by elemental analyses, molar conductivity, magnetic, thermal and spectral (IR, UV–Vis, 1H and 13C NMR and ESR) studies. On the basis of analytical and spectral studies the ligand behaves as monobasic tridentate ONS donor forming two five membered rings ...

In this study, copper sulfate was successfully embedded in filter paper through soaking and copper oxide was successfully embedded in filter paper via in situ technique using the copper sulfate-embedded paper as the starting material. Using color analysis, the filter paper soaked with copper sulfate solution was observed to change color from white to blue, indicating the presence of embedded copper sulfate salts. Furthermore, upon soaking this filter paper with sodium hydroxide solution, the color changed from blue to brown, indicating the presence of copper oxide. X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectroscopy confirms the observed...

Abstract Carbohydrate esters are biodegradable, and the degraded adducts are naturally occurring carbohydrates and fatty acids which are environmentally friendly and non-toxic to human. A simple one-step regioselective acylation of mono-carbohydrates has been developed that leads to the synthesis of a wide range of carbohydrate esters. Screening of these acylated carbohydrates revealed that several compounds were active against a panel of bacteria and fungi, including Staphylococcus aureus, methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA), Candida albicans, Cryptococcus neoformans, Aspergillus flavus and Fusarium graminearu...
