The Culture of Kindness

“Someone must stand up for what's right.” This line from the popular song Hands by Jewel1 speaks to a wide audience and has varied applications to life and culture. If culture is simply described as a set of beliefs and values of a particular group, then a worthwhile endeavor for professional nu rses would include consideration of current unit culture and current behaviors. A review of unit norms and personal style related to kind and respectful treatment of coworkers is a good starting point. Nurses are known for and respected for caring practices and behaviors toward patients.
