Authors: Hwong A, Wang K, Bent S, Mangurian C Abstract OBJECTIVE: Women with schizophrenia appear to receive breast cancer diagnoses at later stages of the disease compared with the general population. To study this disparity, this report reviewed and quantified the differences in rates of mammography screening for women with schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders compared with the general population. METHODS: A systematic literature search was conducted in PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and PsycINFO databases. Each database was searched from inception to September 14, 2018. The search strategy included s...

This study aimed to determine the trend in the attendance for mammography screening during 2006–2014 and to identify the factors that are predictive for participation in it. The study sample consisted of 1941 women aged 50–64 years, who participated in five cross-sectional biennial postal surveys of Lithuanian Health Behavior Monitoring, carried out in independent national random samples. The attendance for screening was identified if women reported having had a mammogram within the last two years. The proportion of women attending the screening was continuously increasing from 20.0% in 2006 up to 65.8%...

In most cases, radiologists are able to distinguish calcifications usually associated with benign diseases from those associated with malignancy. In addition to their value in the early detection of breast carcinoma and accurate radiological diagnosis, the presence of microcalcifications often affects the extent of surgical intervention. Certain types of micro...

AbstractRecent advances in digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) technology were focused on the reconstruction of 2D “Synthesized Mammograms” (SMs) from DBT dataset. The introduction of SMs could avoid an additional digital mammography (DM) which is often required in complement to DBT examinations. Therefore, breast absorbed dose and compression time can be significantly reduced in DBT+SM procedures with respe ct to DBT+DM modality. However, to date, a limited number of studies have objectively characterised the image quality of SMs with respect to DM images. Therefore, the aim of this phantom study was to compreh...

TortorellaAbstractIn this paper, we propose a novel method for the detection of small lesions in digital medical images. Our approach is based on a multi-context ensemble of convolutional neural networks (CNNs), aiming at learning different levels of image spatial context and improving detection performance. The main innovation behind the proposed method is the use of multiple-depth CNNs, individually trained on image patches of different dimensions and then combined tog...
