12 Is cardiac resynchronisation therapy more effective in females than males? A comparison of STH patients and the findings of MADIT-CRT

Background: Cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT) aims to improve cardiac output in patients with heart failure (HF) and electro-mechanical dyssynchrony of the left ventricle. Response to CRT still displays large individual variations, therefore it is important to identify characteristics which may indicate the success of the device. Differences in sex-specific outcomes for death and heart failure events were examined in a sub-study to the MADIT-CRT study, revealing females to achieve significantly better results from CRT devices than males.
