99 Temporary pacing optimisation post cardiac surgery. Are we missing a trick?

Introduction: Optimisation of haemodynamic status post cardiac surgery is complex. In the UK, these patients are typically managed by Anaethetists and/or Intesivists. Adjustments in fluid replacement and inotropic support are routine in hypotensive patients, while temporary pacing optimisation is considered less frequently. We hypothesise that for patients with intact atrioventricular (AV) node conduction and appropriate fluid balance, the promotion of intrinsic ventricular conduction may increase blood pressure (BP) and reduce the need for inotropic support.
