Authors: Abbassy AA, Trebinjac S, Kotb N Abstract Knee osteoarthritis is a degenerative "wear and tear" disorder affecting mainly population over 50 years old. It can also present in younger people, especially after an injury or as a part of other diseases. While many therapeutic options exist for knee osteoarthritis, none of them has the potential to cure this condition. Cellular Matrix represents a combination of natural non-crosslinked hyaluronic acid (HA), thixotropic cell separation gel, and sodium citrate anticoagulant solution. A combination of Cellular Matrix with autologous platelet-rich plasma (...

Conclusions: There are several ongoing efforts to use novel ablative therapies directed towards the brain. The recent development of techniques that allow for precise targeting, accurate delivery of thermal doses and real-time visualization of induced tissue damage during the procedure have resulted in novel techniques for cerebral ablation such as magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound or laser interstitial thermal therapy. However, older techniques such as radiofrequency thermal ablation or stereotactic radiosurgery still have a pivotal role in the management of a variety of neurological disorders. PMID: 315371...

Abstract Chronic pancreatitis is a complex and irreversible disease of the pancreas and is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Nutrition deficiencies in chronic pancreatitis are common and can be atypical in nature. As such, the management of these deficiencies can be individualized for patients. The aim of this review is to discuss the components of nutrition deficiencies in chronic pancreatitis, their management, and the current areas of research that are being explored. The clinical guidelines of major national and international societies were analyzed for recommendations on the nutrition manag...

WalterAbstractSpinal cord stimulation (SCS) is an evidence-based, reversible but invasive procedure for the treatment of chronic pain syndromes: for example, in patients with failed-back-surgery syndrome or complex regional pain syndrome. A more recent, similar technique uses high-frequency stimulation for SCS and follows a different mechanism of action that does not result in paresthesia. This Technical Note and vi...

Hutchinson, Hang Yin, Xiaohui WangAbstractThere is growing interest in drug repositioning to find new therapeutic indications for drugs already approved for use in people. Lovastatin is an FDA approved drug that has been used clinically for over a decade as a lipid-lowering medication. While lovastatin is classically considered to act as a hydroxymethylglutaryl (HMG)-CoA reductase inhibitor,...

Conclusion: Recurrent Takotsubo cardiomyopathy involving different anatomic regions of the left ventricle is a rare phenomenon yet appears to be similar to typical Takotsubo cardiomyopathy in presentation and hospital course. Chronic therapy with beta blockers and angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors did not prevent a recurrence in this patient, suggesting that optimum treatment needs to be determined. Takotsubo cardiomyopathy affecting different myocardial segments may recur in the same patient, implying that the adrenoceptor distribution theory needs further refinement. PMID: 31528138 [PubMed]

(NEW YORK) — More than 500 people have been diagnosed with vaping-related breathing illnesses, but the cause remains unknown, U.S. health officials said Thursday. An eighth death was also reported. Meanwhile, the Food and Drug Administration revealed that its criminal investigations unit started tracking leads early on, as cases pointed to black market vaping products. The agency’s tobacco director, Mitch Zeller, stressed that it is not interested in prosecuting individuals who use illegal products but is lending a hand because of the unit’s “special skills.” The Centers for Disease Control an...
