Neuroscientists find 'gatekeeper' in itching sensations plays no role in pain transmission
(North Carolina State University) A neurotransmitter study in mice found that BNP is involved in relaying itching sensations but not pain. A better understanding of pain and itch pathways could help researchers develop targeted therapies for diseases with chronic itching, including multiple sclerosis and kidney failure.
