Late night host Jimmy Kimmel gave a tearful, emotional monologue at the start of his show Monday night, as he called for gun control in the aftermath of a mass shooting in his hometown of Las Vegas that killed dozens and injured hundreds. Kimmel, who hosts Jimmy Kimmel Live!, opened his show by detailing what has become the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history. At least 59 people were killed and more than 527 were injured when a shooter opened fire on a music festival from the Mandalay Bay casino and resort in Las Vegas. Kimmel, who recently came to attention as an activist after challenging Republican health care efforts to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, criticized party members for failing to pass gun control measures, despite the continued occurrence of mass shootings in the U.S. “It seems to be becoming increasingly difficult lately.
