However, currently available AI systems do not interact with a patient, e.g., for anamnesis, and thus are only used by the physicians for predictions in diagnosis or prognosis. However, these systems are widely used, e.g., in diabetes or cancer prediction. In the current study, we developed an AI that is able to interact with a patient (virtual...

Conclusion: We describe the first case of fungal necrotising scleritis without intraocular inflammation following pars plana vitrectomy (PubMed Search). Infection should be kept in the differential diagnosis of post-operative necrotising scleritis even in the absence of risk factors like hypopyon or diabetes. Early recognition improves final outcome. Medical therapy should be continued even after presumed cure to take care of residual fungi and prevent recurrences. PMID: 31429609 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Over 2.6 million ED visits across the United States result in a primary diagnosis of urinary tract infection.1 While much attention has been paid to reducing blood culture contamination rates in the emergency department,2-9 a substantial gap remains in projects aimed at reducing contamination in clean-catch urine specimens obtained in the ED setting. Obtaining an adequate urine culture is clinically important to the care of several vulnerable patient groups, including patients with diabetes or compromised immune responses, those with high risk for subsequent urosepsis, previous antibiotic resistant infections, multiple ant...
