Sense of Humor

How is your sense of humor on a normal day? This is a serious question. Do you keep your sense of humor? Do you have a sense of humor? If you don't have a sense of humor, I think it would negatively impact your health issues.Yes I have no training on any kind of medical or psychological information. But I do think a healthy sense of humor is very important as a coping mechanism. If you can crack jokes, you probably are not on death's door.... right now.Personally, I think sense of humor should be checked, just like any other vital sign, at doctor appointments.

Abstract The tumor microenvironment is marked by gradients in the level of oxygen and nutrients, with oxygen levels reaching a minimum at the core of the tumor, a condition known as tumor hypoxia. Mediated by members of the HIF family of transcription factors, hypoxia leads to a more aggressive tumor phenotype by transactivation of several genes as well as reprogramming of pre-mRNA splicing. Intragenic DNA methylation, which is known to affect alternative splicing in cancer, could be one of several reasons behind the changes in splicing patterns under hypoxia. Here, we have tried to establish a correlation between...

Abstract Accumulating evidences indicate the involvement of epigenetic deregulations in cancer. While some epigenetic regulators with aberrant functions in cancer are targeted for improving therapeutic outcome in patients, reinstating the functions of tumor-suppressor-like epigenetic regulators might further potentiate anti-cancer therapies. Epigenetic reader zinc-finger MYND-type-containing 8 (ZMYND8) has been found to be endowed with multiple anti-cancer functions like inhibition of tumor cell migration and proliferation. Here, we report another novel tumor suppressor role of ZMYND8 as an inducer of differentiat...

Publication date: Available online 23 January 2020Source: Inorganica Chimica ActaAuthor(s): Olla Sharhan, Thorsten Heidelberg, Najihah Mohd Hashim, Wafa M. Al-Madhagi, Hapipah Mohd AliAbstractA series of N-alkylated benzimidazolium salts based on 9-substituted acridine has been synthesized and subsequently converted into the corresponding Ag(I) carbene complexes. The compounds were characterized by IR, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy. Identity and purity were confirmed by HRMS and elemental analysis, respectively. Both, ligands and complexes, were evaluated on their antibacterial and anticancer potential. All complexes exhibit...

CONCLUSIONS: Simultaneous nipple reconstruction is a reliable surgical method with economic advantages. No differences were found in terms of outcomes and complications in comparison to delayed reconstruction. Therefore, surgeons can consider simultaneous nipple reconstruction without particular concerns about asymmetry or necrosis. PMID: 31964120 [PubMed]

In this study, the metastasis inhibition effects of eleven phytochemicals was evaluated by monitoring the number changes of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in the overall procession of cancer metastasis using in vivo CTC capture method. Meanwhile, the anticancer effect on primary tumor growth and lung metastasis were also investigated on breast tumor BALB/c mouse model. At selected dose, the primary tumor growth were suppressed for all of the eleven food phytochemicals except β-carotene. The numbers of lung metastases were reduced and increased tendency of the number of captured CTCs in the blood circulation were delay...

Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) is a major complicating factor in determining morbidity and mortality following allogeneic stem cell transplant. To prevent GVHD, our institution administers calcineurin inhibitors and low doses of methotrexate (MTX) (5-15 mg/m2) on days +1, +3, +6, +11 for GVHD prophylaxis.Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are used for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease, pyrosis, and/or peptic ulcer disease. PPIs have been shown to inhibit the ATP-binding cassette drug transporter Breast Cancer Resistance Protein's (BCRP/ABCG2) ability to excrete methotrexate into the urine in a concentration-dependent manner.
