CONCLUSIONS: Isolated EU was found to be associated with snoring, an elongated uvula and having suffered from previous episodes of EU. Associations among groups of EU patients and gender, obesity, smoking, alcohol consumption, personal and family atopy or obstructive sleep apnea, were not demonstrated. Allergy to A. simplex was the most commonly recorded cause. PMID: 30222112 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

tickley Seasonal allergies have been associated with mental health problems, though the evidence is still emergent, particularly in the United States. We analyzed data from the National Comorbidity Survey Replication and the National Latino and Asian American Survey (years 2001–2003). Multivariable logistic regression models were used to examine the relations between lifetime allergies and lifetime psychiatric disorders (each disorder in a separate model), adjusting for socio-demographic variables (including region of residence) and tobacco use. Analyses were also stratified to test for effect modification by...

CONCLUSIONS: Serological tests for allergy should be interpreted with caution in alcoholics, who frequently show increased levels of total IgE, CCD-sIgE and subsequent positivity of sIgE to glycosylated allergen components, irrespective of the method used. Our voice represents our rich inner world of thoughts, feelings, wants and needs. It is an instrument—and every instrument needs careful maintenance for optimal function When providing voice treatment to my clients, I can’t stress enough the importance of a vocal hygiene protocol. Some recommendations are standard, such as adequate water intake and using a humidifier at home. But to give my clients the best opportunities for improvement, I like to go beyond the basics. To accomplish this, I take a holistic dive into the diet, lifestyle and environment the client encounters daily. This insight can shed light on ...

Discussion The most common allergic foods are cow’s milk (most common), egg, peanut, tree nut, soy, wheat, fish and shellfish. Egg, milk, soy and wheat tend to occur in young children and these are more likely to be outgrown over time. Peanut, tree nut, shellfish, and fish occur at all ages and are less likely to be outgrown. Peanut and tree nut allergies also tend to be more severe than other foods. Ninety percent of food fatalities were attributed to tree nuts and peanuts. In a study of anaphylaxis in schools, food was the most likely trigger (54%) with nuts and fruits being the most commonly identified foods. Co-f...

AbstractContact allergies due to fragrances are common. If one adds up the reaction incidences of the indicators of fragrance allergy (fragrance mix [FM] I  + II, balsam of Peru and turpentine), these reach 17% in a hospital collective (Information Network of Departments of Dermatology [IVDK] data 2016) and are thus higher than those for nickel allergy (approximately 16%). In the case of positive reactions to FM I,>50% do not react to one of the components. This type of reaction should be interpreted as allergic with caution, unless other data (e.  g., positive history, application test) support thi...

ConclusionOur results demonstrate that exercise and aspirin augment clinical reactions in WDEIA by lowering the threshold and increase the severity of the allergic reaction, whereas alcohol gives ambiguous results. Furthermore, a combination of 2 cofactors (exercise and aspirin) increases the risk of reactions.

Abstract The trend of emerging biorefineries is to process the harvest as efficiently as possible and without any waste. From the most valuable phytomass, refined medicines, enzymes, dyes and other special reactants are created. Functional foods, food ingredients, oils, alcohol, solvents, plastics, fillers and a wide variety of other chemical products follow. After being treated with nutrient recovery techniques (for fertilizer production), biofuels or soil improvers are produced from the leftovers. Economic optimization algorithms have confirmed that such complex biorefineries can be financially viable only when a high de...
