Microbial metabolism of senegenic acid and senegenin by Mucor polymorphosporus

These four metabolites were identified as 21β-hydroxyl senegenic acid (3), 21-keto senegenic acid (4), 21α-hydroxyl senegenin (5), and 21-keto senegenin (6), respectively. Among them, compounds 3, 5, and 6 displayed selective neuroprotective effects at a concentration of 10 μM by use of an in vitro bioassay. Graphical abstract
