Heart & Lung Leadership note: A message from the board

No matter what our role in healthcare, we all know the importance of research on improving outcomes for patients with chronic illnesses such as heart failure. Research provides indications and rationales for performing evidenced based care and is the cornerstone of our practice. We know that heart failure affects approximately 6 million individuals in the U.S. and the cost has been estimated at $39.2 billion per year.1 The costs due to heart failure hospitalizations are estimated at $8 to $15 billion each year, which is twice the amount spent for all forms of cancer.
