Age-related pathological changes in the pancreas.

Age-related pathological changes in the pancreas. Front Biosci (Elite Ed). 2018 Jan 01;10:137-142 Authors: Matsuda Y Abstract Pancreas has a complex histology and is characterized by a combination of endocrine and exocrine cells. Pancreas undergoes various pathological changes with aging characterized by increased fatty replacement, fibrosis, lymphoplasmacytic infiltration, amyloid deposition, a decreased weight as well as development of intra-epithelial neoplastic changes. These age-related alterations lead to diabetes mellitus and can predispose the individual to pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. In this review, we summarize age-related morphological and pathological changes of aging in pancreas. PMID: 28930609 [PubMed - in process]

In this study, human retinal vascular endothelial cells (RVECs) were cultured in high-glucose (HG) medium to mimic the environment of DR. The expression of long non-coding RNA (lncRNA)-metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 (MALAT1) was determined by quantitative real time PCR. ERS markers (glucose-regulated protein 78 [GRP78] and C/EBP homologous protein [CHOP]) were measured by immunofluorescence and western blotting. Cell viability was analyzed by the CCK-8 assay. The angiogenesis of RVECs was evaluated by tube formation assays. The levels of pro-inflammation cytokines TNF-α and IL-6 in RVECs were ...

Abstract Diabetes mellitus and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma are two common diseases worldwidely which are both derived from different components of pancreas. The pancreatic and duodenal homeobox-1 (PDX1) is an essential transcription factor for the early development of pancreas that is required for the differentiation of all pancreatic cell lineages. Current evidence suggests an important role of PDX1 in both the origin and progression of pancreatic diseases. In this review, we discussed recent studies of PDX1 in diabetes mellitus and pancreatic cancer, and the therapeutic strategies derived from this transcri...

CONCLUSION: PA was diagnosed in 0.72% of the patients with CP at least 2 years after the diagnosis of CP. Increasing age, male sex, tobacco use, having commercial insurance, absence of diabetes mellitus before CP, and shorter duration of bile duct obstruction were associated with a diagnosis of PA in patients with CP. To describe the characteristics of concomitant lung cancer and pulmonary cryptococcosis (PC) cases. A total of 8 patients with lung cancer and coexisting PC, who were admitted to Fuzhou Pulmonary Hospital of Fujian from 1st January 2009 to 31st December 2015 and whose diagnoses were confirmed by pathological examinations, were studied. One patient had a history of diabetes mellitus and 1 had a history of treated with surgery. The lesions in 7 cases manifested as nodular shadows; only 1 case showed the lesion of the 2 diseases mergedmixed together, and it manifested as a large flake-like infiltrated shadow in the same lob...

ConclusionA very difficult case of grade V immune-related thrombocytopenia after the administration of nivolumab as second-line therapy for relapsed lung adenocarcinoma was described. Immune-related thrombocytopenia is a rare adverse event, but it must be considered a possible complication because it may become critical once it has occurred.

This study aimed to evaluate the association between use of statin or aspirin and PDAC in a nationwide large cohort.MethodsIn this nested case ‐control study, we used data from a 12‐year nationwide longitudinal cohort in Korea. Cases with PDAC and controls who were matched to cases by age, sex, income, and index year at a 1:5 ratio were established. We used multivariate logistic regression analyses to identify the independent risk fact ors of PDAC.ResultsWe identified a total of 827 patients with PDAC between 2007 and 2013, and included 4135 matched controls. Diabetes mellitus, chronic and acute pancreatitis, pancreati...

CONCLUSION: Administration of metformin eliminated PDAC formation in KC mice. This change was associated with significant microbial changes in both the mucosal and luminal microbiome of the duodenum. This suggests that the microbiome may be a potential mediator of the chemo-preventive effects of metformin. PMID: 31545922 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
