Effect of sodium levothyroxine on histomorphometry, histopathology, histochemistry, and immunohistochemistry of articular cartilage in female mice
AbstractSodium levothyroxine is one of the common medicines used for treatment of hypothyroidism. The aim of the present study was to assess the effect of sodium levothyroxine on the middle part of tibia plateau in knee joint and related hormones in individuals affected by hypothyroidism. Fifty female mice were randomized into five groups. The first group was considered as control; the second and third groups were received different doses of levothyroxine; the forth group was undergone hypothyroidism; and the fifth group, the animals with hypothyroidism, was received levothyroxine orally. After 8 weeks, serum samples were taken to determine TSH, T4, FT4, T3, FT3, T3RU, calcium, and phosphorus. The cartilage of tibia plateau was evaluated using hematoxylin–eosin (histomorphometry of tibia plateau), toluidine blue (proteoglycans of matrix), TUNEL (chondrocytes apoptosis), and immunohistoch emistry (rate of Collagen-II). The results showed that the number of chondrocytes, cartilage thickness, proteoglycans, and Collagen-II and the rate of T3 in the third group were significantly decreased; whereas, the percentage of apoptotic chondrocytes in the third group was significantly increased compared to those of other experimental groups (P
A Case of Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura Treated with Rituximab Associated with Primary Sjögren's Syndrome and Primary Hypothyroidism. Intern Med. 2019 Nov 08;: Authors: Okumura T, Hashimoto K, Aomura D, Kurasawa Y, Hara Y, Fujii K, Masuda T, Sonoda K, Yamaguchi A, Ogawa Y, Kamijo Y Abstract A 47-year-old man was admitted to our hospital because of thrombocytopenia and consciousness disturbance. As his laboratory data showed undetectable activity of a disintegrin-like and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin type 1 motifs 13 (ADAMTS13) and the presence of ADAMTS13 inhibitor, he was diagnosed...
ConclusionsNo apparent association was found between subclinical hypothyroidism or subclinical hyperthyroidism defined on single TSH measurement and BMD at the lumbar spine and femur in a large cohort of middle-aged men and women. Subclinical hypothyroidism was independently associated with a lower risk of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.

ConclusionsThe BR method does not increase the remission rates. It may be useful to combine L-T4 with a medium dose of methimazole when GD is difficult to manage with methimazole alone. It may represent a therapeutic option to postpone definitive treatments to a suitable age.
Conclusion For patients with Graves' disease, those with iatrogenic hypothyroidism and TSI > 2.5 times the basal level are at the highest risk for neonatal thyrotoxicosis. Authors: Pramono LA, Yuwono A Abstract Congenital hypothyroidism is the most treatable cause of mental retardation. It is also the most prevalent congenital endocrine disorder in childhood. A dramatic improvement can be made by early detection, diagnosis, and adequate treatment of levothyroxine in patients with congenital hypothyroidism. Severe cognitive impairment is associated with persistent disease in patients who have delayed or no treatment at all. In a modern era with complete healthcare facilities in a big city like Jakarta, the prevalence late-diagnosed congenital hypothyroidism is supposed to be very low....

CONCLUSION: The frequency of potential drug interactions in drug therapy prescribed at discharge for these older adults was high. Polypharmacy, diabetes mellitus, hypothyroidism and chronic kidney disease were positively associated with occurrences of drug interactions, while hospitalization in geriatric units showed an inverse association.
