Beeswax and Helping

If you want to be a good friend during a medical crisis, ask how you can help. Don't say,'how can I help?'Ask'Do you need anything from the grocery store? I'm going later today.'Mow their lawn. Pick up their kids from school. All those things. Anything you can do.However, its'none of your beeswax'on what exactly their health issues are so:Do not interrogate them daily on what's the latest from their doctor Do not tell the world every little detail you interrogated out of them. Its not your story to tell.Do not tell them your cousin's hairdresser's uncle's neighbor's son had the same thing and their treatment was what your friend has and they died in the end. Or conversely, their treatment was different and must be better because they lived another two years. So remember, do not interrogate, its not your beeswax to share, and any other treatment anyone else had is irrelevant. But go mow their lawn.....

Eleven genes have been identified that increase the lifetime risk of developing ovarian cancer. The cumulative cancer risk of ovarian cancer varies with the mutation type and age. Ovarian cancer risk management options include surgical risk reduction with salpingo-oophorectomy and a newer step-wise approach with interval salpingectomy and delayed oophorectomy. Women should be counseled on the pros and cons of hysterectomy in the setting of reducing the risk of other cancers; eliminating the risk of endometrial cancer in Lynch Syndrome, potential risk of serous/serous-like endometrial cancer in BRCA1 carriers, and eliminati...

The risk of extra-colonic cancer in IBD is unclear. While thiopurines and tumour necrosis factor- α antagonists (anti-TNFs) are associated with increased risk of skin cancer and lymphoma in IBD, there is scant data on breast cancer in IBD. We evaluated the prevalence of breast cancer in IBD and investigated the role of biologics, immunomodulators, and clinical characteristics of IBD in patients with IBD and breast cancer.

Contributors : Brooks D Michael ; Zhu YongyouSeries Type : Expression profiling by high throughput sequencingOrganism : Homo sapiensThere is substantial evidence that many cancers, including human breast cancer are hierarchically organized and driven by a cellular population that displays stem cell properties. These stem-like cells (CSC ’s) mediate tumor metastasis and by virtue of their relative therapeutic resistance mediate tumor recurrence. Both normal and malignant stem cells are regulated through epigenetic mechanisms which involve DNA and histone modifications as well as noncoding RNAs. However, the mechanisms...

Contributors : Alexey I Kalinkin ; Alexander S TanasSeries Type : Methylation profiling by high throughput sequencingOrganism : Homo sapiensDespite the advantages of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT), associated toxicity is a serious concern and close monitoring of the response of the patients to NACT is required. Thus, prediction of treatment response is imperative to avoid exposure of potential non-responders to deleterious side effects of NACT. We have performed genome-wide analysis of DNA methylation by XmaI-RRBS and selected CpG dinucleotides differential methylation of which discriminates BC samples with different sens...

Publication date: April 2020Source: Biomedicine &Pharmacotherapy, Volume 124Author(s): Bissoli Irene, Muscari ClaudioAbstractAccording to cancer stem cell theory, only a limited number of self-renewing and cloning cells are responsible for tumor relapse after a period of remittance. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of Doxorubicin and α-Mangostin, two antiproliferative drugs, on both tumor bulk and stem cells in multicellular tumor spheroids originated from the luminal MCF-7 breast cancer cell line. A new and original fluorimetric assay was used to selectively measure the activity of the...

Background: Women with breast cancer have worse health outcomes with co-occurring type 2 diabetes, possibly due to suboptimal breast cancer treatment. Methods: We created a cohort of women ages 66 to 85 y with stage I to III breast cancer from 1993 to 2012 from an integrated health care delivery system (n=1612) and fee-for-service Medicare beneficiaries (n=98,915), linked to Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) data (total n=100,527). We evaluated associations between type 2 diabetes and other factors with undergoing guideline-concordant cancer treatment. We estimated χ2 tests for univariate a...
