Processing of visual food cues during bitter taste perception in female patients with binge-eating symptoms: a cross-modal ERP study
Binge-eating disorder (BED) is the most common eating disorder (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). An estimated 1.6% of women and 0.8% of men can be clinically diagnosed with BED (12-month prevalence). The symptoms include recurrent binge eating episodes with loss of control, in the absence of regular compensatory behavior. BED is associated with marked distress in these patients regarding their binge eating and also regarding the resulting increased weight gain or obesity (American Psychiatric Association, 2013).
