Semen parameters during ZIKA virus infection in the olive baboon (Papio anubis)

Zika virus (ZIKV) is a teratogenic arbovirus transmissible by semen (1). Transient hematospermia, leukospermia, and oligospermia (2) have rarely been reported in ZIKV-infected humans. Mouse models of ZIKV have demonstrated global testicular pathology, oligospermia, and infertility (3, 4). As part of a larger study investigating ZIKV kinetics in the semen of the olive baboon, our objective here is to describe the semen parameters and investigate differences pre- and post-infection.
