Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) primarily affects older adults and yet outcomes have not significantly improved for this population, in fact – in the elderly population, less than half of patients are even offered therapy.1, 2 Many older, fit individuals can receive induction therapy, but outside of clinical trials, this patient population commonly receives monotherapy with a DNA-methyltransferase inhibitor.3 This treatment option is a ssociated with low response rates and only modest improvements in overall survival relative to supportive care alone.
