She had no significant medical history; she displayed lethargy and was anemic. Although blood transfusion and famotidine were administered for upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB), the anemia did not improve. CONCLUSIONS Our hemodynamic model using HR, SBP, and PI likely reflects nociceptive levels at skin incision during general anesthesia, and quantitatively discerned the difference in nociceptive responses to skin incision between laparoscopy and laparotomy. This model could be applicable to assess either real-time nociceptive responses or averaged nociceptive responses throughout surgery without using special equipment. AbstractPurpose of ReviewCardiac output (CO) and hemodynamic parameters, and specifically the noninvasive approach to their measurement, have been the subject of continuous technological developments and lengthy debates. The challenge remains to measure these parameters in a user friendly and cost-effective way, without compromising accuracy and with few limitations in the real clinical environment.Recent FindingsThe industry might have solved the issue with the latest development of thoracic bioimpedance, called high-definition impedance cardiography (HD-ICG) and based on the direct analysis of morphology of the heart imp...

Atway Postoperative pain is a problem that plagues physicians and has since the dawn of the surgical arts. Many interventions are available and used as the standard such as preoperative local anesthetic blocks, opiates, both oral and intravenous, and nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs. Although the temptation often exists to increase the postoperative opiate dose, opiate abuse is an increasing problem. This abuse has fueled the search for nonopiate pain adjuncts. Gabapentinoid...
