Differential effects of Zincum metallicum on cell models.

CONCLUSIONS: Differing responses and non-linearity were found on macrophages challenged with Zincum metallicum at high dilutions. No changes in melanoma cells were observed. Customised assays using target cells can be useful to investigate high-dilution effects. Other cell types and conditions should be explored. PMID: 28844290 [PubMed - in process]

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a lethal disease with a devastating 5-year overall survival of only approximately 7%. Although just 4% of all malignant diseases are accounted to PDAC, it will become the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths before 2030. Immunotherapy has proven to be a promising therapeutic option in various malignancies such as melanoma, non–small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), microsatellite instability-high gastrointestinal cancer, urinary tract cancer, kidney cancer, and others. In this review, we summarize recent findings about immunological aspects of PDAC with the focus on the pr...

Acral melanoma comprises a poorly characterized and distinct type of melanoma, in terms of differing roles of UVR, molecular substrate, distribution among all ethnicities, and poor prognosis. Haugh et  al. explore clinical, histological, and molecular aspects of acral melanomas and provide insights into the complexity of these tumors.

CONCLUSIONS Baseline CTC count was correlated with adverse pathological features and was predictive of survival in melanoma patients. Alteration of CTC count before and after treatment was an indicator of therapy response and prognosis. Measuring the baseline and post-treatment CTC counts is a powerful tool in monitoring melanoma progression, drug response, and survival. PMID: 29337932 [PubMed - in process]

AbstractRecognition and timely adequate treatment of erythema multiforme remain a major challenge. In this review, current diagnostic guidelines, potential pitfalls, and modern/novel treatment options are summarized with the aim to help clinicians with diagnostic and therapeutic decision-making. The diagnosis of erythema multiforme, that has an acute, self-limiting course, is based on its typical clinical picture of targetoid erythematous lesions with predominant acral localization as well as histological findings. Clinically, erythema multiforme can be differentiated into isolated cutaneous and combined mucocutaneous form...

The current report is aimed at finding out whether the antitumor potential of chrysin, evidenced in vitro and in vivo, is linked or not to its effect on immunological mechanisms of melanoma-bearing mice. Chrysin-treated B...

This study investigated whether genetic counseling and test reporting for theCDKN2A/p16 mutation, which confers highly elevated melanoma risk, improved sun protection without inducing distress. Eighteen minors (Mage = 12.4,SD = 1.9) from melanoma-prone families completed measures of protective behavior and distress at baseline, 1 week (distress only), 1 month, and 1 year following test disclosure. Participants and their mothers were individually interviewed on the psychological and behavioral impact of genetic te sting 1 month and 1 year post-disclosure. Carriers (n&thin...

ConclusionsA recommended and effective dose of vemurafenib for patients aged 12–17 years with metastatic or unresectable melanoma was not identified. Extremely low enrollment in this trial highlights the importance of considering the inclusion of adolescents with adult cancers in adult trials.
